Ok, it's time for module evaluation for the semester!
EC1301 – Principles of Economics
This module looks OK, with both mid-term and final being MCQs. But, it's not too OK also. Once the mid term is not good, don't dream of climbing back in the second half, unless you are really an econs genius.
The bad thing about this module is that people who have taken econs before in JC are not prevented from taking it at university level. Basically the things taught are mostly the same, and people who have taken econs tend to score better at it, and bring that stupid bell curve into heavenly heights.
People who have taken an econs full course, and unable to do well, shame on you. People who have taken econs before and dropped it in JC (like me) and unable to do well, it just proves that dropping econs back then was a very wise choice – Econs is not for me.
EE3001 – Project
This is ECE core. Team mates are Chris, TK, JH, Ben, Law, YH and me. Initially we had planned to have 8 in our group, but due to foreseeable circumstances, we were left with 7. 7's a nice number, otherwise, we won't have come up with Optica61 as our imaginary company's name – 6 guys and 1 gal!
This module is quite relaxed if all team mates are able to cooperate, which I think we did. The bad thing is, all's talk only, and no action. Quite boring actually. Another thing is that, why different people in the team are getting different grades when everyone did his/her parts, and everyone has no complains of each other? So bad.
But as usual, we cannot do anything also. Imagine appeal for this module. The uni will be very happy to accept the donation…

EE4302 – Advanced Control Systems
This module is ok actually, if I have put in more time earlier. Actually, I did put in more time, but I think it's still not enough. I only manage to understand the concepts at a much later stage, which is quite bad.
Prof Lee is one of the few people that I have met, that has a loooooong breath. He can really talk, and talk, and talk…. and talk…. still talk… Lol. But at least he's clear in what he's teaching, and I can understand what he's talking, just that I am slow in registering the correct concepts in my brain. Like the mini project, I only realised my error in one part when I am revising for the final paper. Then I understand why initially, my matlab code did something that did not make any sense to me after 1 week. I thought it was my error, and I changed the code to what I thought it's correct. Well done. Lol.
Prof Ho was ok. Funny guy. Typical SG lecturer. Lol. His part is quite ok, but same thing, I just cannot register the correct things in the brain. I only remembered unimportant things like Prof Daniel Chan was his lecturer last time, and he wrote "that's all folks" in his practical report… blah blah blah… Lol…
But really, advanced control is a bit very advanced. Lol…
EE4306 – Distributed Autonomous Robotics Systems
This module is very vague. The first part was the study of a type of random search programming – genetic algorithm. It uses the idea of genetics and maybe a bit of Darwin's evolution theory to try to find the optimised solution of multi-parameter problem. It's ok initially, but as more things come in, it becomes a headache.
Dr KC was ok. He finishes his section real fast. His mini project was ok, with matlab programming. Maybe my question was more ok than the rest. Lol. When I see him, I am reminded of fuzzy… then his face becomes fuzzy, then put his face through fuzzification and defuzzification and see if there is resemblance between his face and his son's. Wahaha ok I am talking crap…
Dr Prahlad's sick from the start of his part of lecture, so he stopped quite a lot, and the pace is slow too. His part is very…. analytical and theoretical, which is quite bad, and good also, as there's no standard answer to a particular problem – just argue your way through. He's good at speeding through lectures too, with him finishing around 4 chapters in a zoom. Wow.
This module? Very fuzzy…
FNA1002X – Financial Accounting
I believe that I will do better for this module, if I speak up (or really have the chance to do so) in class. How to win that 20% class participation, when whatever that's in my brain gets voiced out by another person whose brain is Pentium4, and mine's 486?
Never mind the calculations to prove that Pentium 4 processes data-to-voice at a much higher rate than 486. But it's obvious.
I think, the only time I spoke was: 1st lesson, presentation x1, 1 question to shoot a presentation down (because no one else thought of that, or all's too pro to even consider that a problem), and one tutorial for saying out answers. And perhaps some little talks with Mrs Chandran. She herself will not throw questions at a particular person to help in gaining participation points. Or rather, she throws a question, and another indirect person comes in and steals the limelight. Lol…
Oh well. The rest of the time? I will be nodding at Weibiao's explanations. Lol…
Overall, the class too pro. I too slow. Heh it rhymes. One thing on why I enjoyed going to FNA tutorials and maybe, lectures was that I get to see Fashion Show. Wahaha!!! No more chance to see her liao. Too badz lor.
Project-wise, Weibiao and I got some loss contingency which later converts to a realised loss. Lol… But that's not too big an issue…
The lecturers were good. Dr Chng's the best! Dr Edmund Keung, still room for improvement! Lots! Wahaha!!
GEK2507 – Computational Methods for Basic Finance
This module is easy, but the lecturer's a bit lack of experience I think. Miss Goh has to improve on her teaching. It's lucky that JH and I got Chen Ding as lab instructor, or else, it's going to be quite cham.
Ok, I have nothing much to say about this module, except that alot of people find it quite chim, which I thought otherwise. Maybe it's the combination of FNA and this, and therefore, I am quite ok with the terms used in both.
Conclusion
As a whole, it's a great sem. The grades explain what I like doing. My econs is still as sux as ever, and FNA-related stuff is quite fun. And Excel rocks. Wahaha…
Next sem? It's going to be hard to achieve this standard, because everyone will be back. Wahaha! No la.. it's just that I have a FYP, an arts gem, 2 depths, and a HR2002. That's all. Maybe I can take another UEM or what… Hmm… wait till I check DRC first.
One thing for sure: I will S/U my arts gem. Arts modules are not for me. Lol.
