Selective Memory Loss

If I can choose, I will opt for selective memory loss.

This is good for wiping off unwanted memories, be it good or bad. By forgetting, you can free yourself from unwanted problems. There will surely be some things that you wish you can forget. You wanted to forget that bad fall. You wanted to forget that cheat. You wanted to forget that maths test. You wanted to forget that failed relationship. You wanted to forget that missed opportunity.

But some of us may opt to remember everything. Right to the detail. Remembering things as a form of past experience. As a form of memory. As a form of telling yourself never to let the same thing happen again.

But does remembering really stop things from repeating themselves? Maybe. Or would you let things repeat themselves without actually knowing that, actually, the same things have occured before? Which is better? You make the decision.

For me, I choose to forget, but I will still remember. "Selective memory loss" is to tell people that I have forgotten. It is also to tell people that, if given a chance, I will be back. It is also to tell myself to forgive. It is also to make myself happier, with less restrictions, and with much more freedom in what I want to do.

Even if things repeat themselves, they will affect me less. It is like forgetting, and giving yourself or others a chance, and yet, having the ability to prevent more serious hurt. If you experience the same thing over and over again, you will feel numb about it. Hopefully. And that will perhaps reduce some pain and hurt.

That is why, sometimes, physical hurt is nothing compared to emotional hurt. Physical scars can be reduced and removed over time. Emotional scars are more scary, as usually, they cannot be completely removed. Because we remember.

So, is that good or bad? Who knows. It can be anything, whatever. You make your own choice. I make mine.

Hmmm… what have I just said? I forgot…

Having sit around so much today really hurt my legs and buttocks. MRI scan has been confirmed to be carried out on 1 Feb, at 8.30am. 1 Feb, I will be extremely busy. 8.30am MRI, 1pm x-ray, 2pm Dr Naresh. Anyone free to stone with me? Guess not?

Aw…
